Workshops

Hand Quilting with Sashiko Thread at Lucinda and Jane (Cold Spring, NY)

Sunday, July 28th at 10 AM. Tickets available through Lucinda and Jane.

In this workshop participants will learn the process of quilting from start to finish by creating their own mini quilt. We will go over how to layer a quilt, baste, mark a design onto a quilt top and hand quilt with sashiko thread (sometimes called big stitch quilting) on a pre-pieced or wholecloth quilt. Techniques for adding a binding to finish the quilt will also be covered. This is an open level workshop - knowledge of how to hand sew is helpful but not required. All sewing is done by hand, we will not be using sewing machines. * Thimbles won’t be supplied but participants can bring them if they would like

Painting with Botanical Inks at Lucinda and Jane (Cold Spring, NY)

Saturday, August 10 at 10 AM. Tickets available through Lucinda and Jane.

In this workshop participants will learn basic recipes for creating botanical (plant-based) inks, how to paint with botanical inks, and how changing the pH of an ink by using a modifier can create a range of colors. We will make one ink together from start to finish using avocado pits that everyone will bottle and bring home with them. While the avocado ink is simmering we will have the opportunity to experiment, paint and play with pre-made inks and modifiers on watercolor paper. This is an open level workshop.
